On 9 December 2015, Peacemakers Trust director, Ernie Fraser returned from three months at Corrymeela, Northern Ireland’s oldest peace and reconciliation organization. As part of the Centre’s leadership team, he provided leadership for the development of young adults from around the world who were engaged with community groups on matters related to healing and reconciliation. This initiative built upon two previous three-month volunteer experiences in 2011 and 2013 at The Corrymeela Community (Northern Ireland) by Ernie Fraser. The mission of Corrymeela is: "embracing difference, healing division and enabling reconciliation," with a focus on long-standing divisions and conflict in Ireland. Peacemakers Trust undertakes research and education on conflict transformation and peacebuilding to create pathways for dialogue and reconciliation.

As a mid-term volunteer at Corrymeela from January to March 2013, Ernie Fraser's role included using his facilitation and program planning expertise in team building and learning activities for an array of groups in the residential setting at the Corrymeela Centre in Ballycastle. In addition to welcoming and hosting a wide-range of groups at the Corrymeela Centre, he provided strategic and communication counsel as opportunities are available. Living on site during this three month period, Ernie participated in all aspects of community life and mentor young adult volunteers.

Through this volunteering opportunity, Peacemakers Trust contributes to Corrymeela's achievement of its vision of a peaceful and sustainable society based upon social justice, positive relationships and respect for diversity. In turn, Peacemakers Trust is incorporating learnings from this initiative into its research and education on peacebuilding and reconciliation.

Welcome You can become a partner in raising the costs of this initiative at the Corrymeela Centre in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland with a tax-deductible donation to Peacemakers Trust, a Canadian charity focused on conflict transformation and peacebuilding. Donations in excess of the amount needed will be used for other Peacemakers Trust research and education work.
